Kind Words From A Fellow Lawyer
During a sentencing hearing in a high profile case in which our client (who had faced up to life in prison) was being sentenced for his role in a corruption/police scandal, Neil Rockind spoke on behalf of the client. After it was over, a court observer — a former prosecutor — followed Rockind out into the hallway and said (paraphrasing):
I’ve always enjoyed watching you (Neil) work. From the time I first saw you, I believed that you set the bar for eloquent, passionate and intelligent lawyers. Today, you did it again. Whenever anyone asks who I would hire if I were in trouble, I say the list has only 1 name on it — yours!
I have never been good at receiving compliments. I cannot explain why. Perhaps I’m just flattered that someone would take the time to come over and share their thoughts about me with me. I guess I am humbled by their courage at being able to do so.
To the lawyer that gave me the compliment … thank you.
