Prosecutor Discretion, Yes … Roger Clemens Trial Is A Waste Of Time, Definitely

After nearly 7 weeks, the case of the United States v Roger Clemens is finally coming to an end.  This trial was 7 weeks too long.  Trust me, I know … I am a trial lawyer.   I try cases for a living and am one of the few lawyers who has ever tried a felony perjury case before a jury.  In fact, I have tried two (2) of them.  One of my cases involved an allegation that a man lied multiple times under oath about an unsolved murder.  The other involved a claim that three (3) elected officials lied under oath to convict a local gadfly.  The words “not guilty” were repeated and repeated often.  My cases were important.  Roger Clemens case is not.

Roger Clemens, otherwise known as the Rocket, is charged with lying to Congress about his lack of HGH/Steroid use.  Who cares?!  Seriously … who cares?  We’re talking about a subject that most people do not care about, ie.., steroid use by professional athletes and Congress, a group of men and women who routinely lie to us and who are lied to frequently.  The fact that the government has spent millions of dollars on this prosecution over this is pathetic and symbolic of what’s wrong with government.  Rather than give the money to the needy or using it for other issues, it is spent pursuing Clemens over Congress’ pride.  In the end that’s what it is … Congress’ feels hurt that Clemens may have lied to them.  Who cares.  Get over it.  We don’t care about Clemens’ drug use any more than we care about the Congressperson’s feelings about it.  Clemens showed up to pitch every night, HGH or not.  If only Congress would follow suit and show up every day to do what’s best for the American people…maybe they need some HGH.
