karen Yes, Karen is related to our founder, Neil Rockind. For 18 years, Karen and Neil have been married. For years, in ways that were not known to the public, Karen was a powerful but mostly hidden force behind Neil’s career and his rise to the top of the field of criminal defense lawyers and trial lawyers. From the moment they met, Karen saw Neil’s potential and encouraged and at times, even pushed Neil to go higher, farther and faster than others around him. As you can see, she wasn’t wrong. Nowadays, Karen is the firm’s office manager, managing the firm’s finances, employees and general business tasks. However, more than just being Neil’s wife, she has the credentials to actually fulfill this role and ensure that firm runs smoothly.

A gradaute of St. Francis Cabrini High School in Allen Park, Michigan, Karen attended the University of Michigan (Dearborn) for a short while until she felt the pull to pursue a career in cosmetology. After apprenticing to a well-known downriver area salon owner, Karen branched off on her own and soon founded Korenda Salon, one of the first Aveda Concept salons in the metropolitan Detroit. She grew that business into one that employed nearly twenty (20) staff members. At its height, Salon Today magazine recognized Korenda Salon as one of the nation’s Top Salons and actually awarded it one the Nation’s Top 50 Hottest Salons. Karen worked closely with the founder of Aveda, Horst Rechelbacher, and performed at hair shows and industry conferences across the country. At one point, Karen was the preferred stylist for John Kelly and Marilyn Turner of Kelly & Company, a popular morning talk show in Detroit, Michigan that appeared on WXYZ-Channel 7. After selling her salon, Karen continued to work in other areas and performed a variety of work for Neil Rockind, P.C., the precursor to Rockind Law. However, Karen was simply too good at management and development to not have a full-time role with Rockind Law and so as the firm has grown in size, stature and prominence, Karen assumed her role as Officer Manager. We are grateful to have her around and if Neil ever gets out line (something that can easily happen given his tenacious personality, we have Karen around to put him in his place.
