It is illegal for a person to fraudulently dispose of or convert to his or her personal use money or personal property that belongs to his or her employer.
If an individual embezzles money or personal property that is worth less than $200.00, it is a misdemeanor offense punishable by no more than 93 days imprisonment, a fine of no more than $500.00 or three times the value of the property embezzled (whichever is greater), or both. However, if the embezzled property is worth more than $200.00 or if the individual has a previous embezzlement conviction, the offense is a felony punishable by no more than 5 years imprisonment, a fine of no more than $10,000.00 or three times the value of the property embezzled (whichever is greater), or both.
