It is a felony in the state of Michigan for anyone to steal any of the following property from another person:

  • Money, goods, bank note, bill, bond or promissory note, deed, a receipt, a writ, process, or public record, nonferrous metal.

Larceny is punishable based on the value of the property stolen and whether or not the offender has a prior larceny conviction. The maximum conviction allowable for a larceny offense is up to ten years in prison, a fine of $15,000.00 or three times the value of the property stolen (whichever is greater), or both. MCL 750.356.
