It is illegal in the State of Michigan for anyone to repeatedly or continually harass another individual in a way that actually and reasonably makes them feel terrorized, frightened, intimidated, or molested. Such behavior includes:

  • Following the individual
  • Appearing at the individual’s workplace or residence
  • Contacting the individual by telephone
  • Sending mail or electronic communication to the individual

Such an offense is generally a misdemeanor punishable by no more than 1-year imprisonment, a fine of no more than $1,000.00, or both.  However, if the victim was less than 18 years old when the offense occurred and the offender was at least 5 years older, the offense becomes a felony. MCL 750.411(h).
